A fragrant and resilient native perennial, Hairy Mountain Mint (also known as Whorled Mountain Mint) is beloved by pollinators and gardeners alike. Its stems are covered in fine hairs, giving the plant a soft, silvery-green appearance that shimmers in the sun. Topped with clusters of small white flowers flecked with purple, it becomes a buzzing hub for native bees, honeybees, butterflies, and beneficial insects throughout the summer.

Compared to Virginia Mountain Mint (P. virginianum) with its dense upright clumps, and Appalachian Mountain Mint (P. flexuosum) with its looser, arching stems, Hairy Mountain Mint (P. verticillatum) is distinct for its fuzzy stems and leaves and its slightly more spreading, airy habit. Its silvery foliage makes it especially attractive in pollinator gardens, food forests, and native plant landscapes.

Historically, mountain mints were prized for their strong fragrance and herbal uses — from soothing teas to remedies for colds and digestion. This species carries the same aromatic and ecological value, while adding unique ornamental appeal.
