Bring a bit of botanical drama to your garden with this native Southeastern vine! Passiflora incarnata, also called Maypop, is a fast-growing perennial vine that produces fragrant, intricate flowers loved by butterflies—especially the Gulf Fritillary and Zebra Longwing. In late summer to fall, it bears egg-sized edible fruit with a tropical sweet flavor.

This is a hardy native species, not a tropical passionfruit. It dies back to the ground in winter and returns with vigor in spring.

Latin Name: Passiflora incarnata
Fruit: Edible yellow-green fruit, ripens late summer, delicious!
Wildlife: Host plant for Gulf Fritillary & Zebra Longwing caterpillars
Growth Habit: Vigorous vine, spreads by root runners
Site & Soil: Full sun to part shade (more sun = more flowers); prefers well-drained, slightly sandy or loamy soil
USDA Zone: 6-10
