These pawpaw trees are not your average wild saplings. Each tree is grown from seed from the world-renowned orchards of pawpaw breeders like Neal Peterson, Jerry Lehman, and Ron Powell. While they are seed-grown (not grafted), they have a much higher chance of producing delicious fruit with excellent qualities. Be sure to choose your preference of origin from the drop down menu! We have four origins for you to choose from:

  • Canopus seedling origin - Selected sapling with Peterson pawpaw genetics.  Tom Wahl developed this cultivar from seedlings of the 'Susquehanna' and 'Shenandoah' varieties so the genetic lineage is highly impressive.
  • KSU/Peterson breeding program - these trees are saplings from seed from trees in the Peterson/KSU breeding program
  • Jerry Lehman orchard - saplings from seed from trees in Jerry Lehman's award-winning orchard such as 'Jerry's Delight', 'Maria's Joy', 'Jerry's Big Girl', and others
  • Ron Powell orchard - saplings from seed from trees in Ron Powell's orchard of improved varieties such as 'Atwood', 'Sunflower', and others

If you're planting with flavor in mind, or hoping to one day have a home orchard full of creamy, custard-like fruit, these are the pawpaws you want.

Bring a taste of the tropics to your backyard with the Pawpaw, a native fruit tree that produces soft, custard-like fruit with a banana-mango flavor. These slow-growing trees are understory natives of the Eastern U.S. and make a unique, conversation-worthy addition to food forests, edible landscapes, or permaculture gardens.
