Little Bluestem is a native warm season, bunching grass with upright slender leaves that is a consistent grey-blue and has rose-orange fall color. It serves as the larval host for several skipper species, and feeds insects such as grasshoppers, Prairie Walkingsticks, and leafhoppers. Little Bluestem provides necessary overwintering habitat and resources for many insects and birds, including queen bees who nest at the base of bunch grasses such as this. Excellent for erosion control as well, as this plant has deep roots that can grow to 8 feet! Drought tolerant once established.

All of our Little Bluestem plants are started from seed foraged from native populations on the land here at the nursery in Northeast Georgia.

Arrives well-rooted in a 3.5” x 5” pot.
